The Man in the Mask – A Guest Post by Lady Divine (@FrancescaHartz @sinfulpress)

Everyone wears a mask of one kind or another.

In romance novels, masks tend to be elaborate, lavishly decorated things, hiding the identity of the mysterious lover from the (more often than not) naïve hero/heroine.

But, in real life, our masks tend to be far less erotic … and much more complicated.

The average human being doesn’t only wear one. They become layered, one over the other. We switch between them throughout the day, showing the face we need for a given situation – parent, spouse, sibling, employee, neighbor. On occasion, one will fall away when we don’t need it anymore, but we tend to add more as time goes on, piling them up until it sometimes becomes difficult to remember who we were to begin with.

Masks can take us away from ourselves.

But sometimes they show who we really are.

And the effect is broad. In the search to find ourselves, it may not even be our own mask, but someone else’s mask, that reveals the truth about us.

There are so many different kinds of masks. In my life, I’ve worn many – masks of compassion, nurturing, confidence, protection. In my work as a professional Dominant, I’ve seen hundreds more – men and women peeling away who they have to be in their vanilla lives and wearing, for my eyes only, the masks they show no one.

This concept of masks has always fascinated me – the idea of becoming more yourself by changing what people see, either literally or symbolically. In my story for Sinful Press’s new anthology Sinful Pleasures, “The Man in the Mask”, I decided to combine both the mask of a man longing to remember who he was with the elaborate mask of the romantic lover. At his birthday party, with every person he knows in attendance, Miguel decides to turn back the clock on his life by doing the one thing that most people would find unthinkable – cheat on his husband with a beautifully submissive masked stranger.

But that’s what we see on the surface. Beneath their masks, Miguel and his anonymous lover aren’t necessarily who they appear to be.

You can find out more about this story, and many of my other writings, by following me on Tumblr – https://lady–divine.tumblr.com (or https://lady-divine-writes.tumblr.com for a more safe for work version ;D). You can also find me on Twitter @FrancescaHartz, or on Instagram at ladydivine91 as I embark on my latest adventure, which is as far from professional Dominant as I could possibly get – fledgling freestyle skater 😉

Stay safe, stay sane, stay consensual – but remember to play dirty as often as you can 😉

Sinful Pleasures

Shhh. We have to do this quick,” Miguel says, reaching around the body of the man standing in front of him to undo the buttons of his shirt. “My husband is going to come looking for me soon.”

“O-okay,” the man acquiesces. “Well, then, do you think I can at least look at you while we…?”

Miguel stops unbuttoning and clamps a hand over the man’s mouth before he can say another word.

“No talking!” he snaps. “I don’t know you, you don’t know me, and it’s going to stay that way. Got it?”

“Is that what you want?” the man asks in a softer voice, hoping Miguel won’t object.

“What if it is?” Miguel replies, his accompanying chuckle cruel. He’s indifferent to the man’s feelings because tonight, he’s not a man. He’s a puppet. A toy. An instrument for Miguel’s use…for his pleasure. “It’s what you must want, too, yes? Otherwise, why do you come here wearing that mask?”

The half-mask the man has on is an odd sort of accessory. It’s lavishly decorated, almost gaudily so—blood red around the eyes and trimmed in gold sequins, swirling filigree designs, and accented in gold dust and rubies—a dramatic shield obscuring a face of pale skin, meticulously styled brown hair, and stunning green eyes.

“Because I was t-told…” The man stutters to a stop when Miguel’s fingers brush his skin, playing through the hairs on his chest. He begins again, wishing he had taken one last shot of the whiskey they’d been serving downstairs. It might have strengthened his voice. “I was told that if I wore it, I would meet the man of my dreams.”

“So, you admit to coming here of your own free will?” Miguel asks. Consent is essential to him. Without it, he’ll dismiss this man now, no exceptions.

It would be a shame not to get the chance to have him, but there are others willing to take his place.

“Yes,” the man replies.

“Say it,” Miguel demands. “Word for word. Say you are here of your own free will.”

“I am here of my own free will.”

“Even though you know what I might do to you?” Miguel has to wonder if this man truly knows anything about his unconventional tastes, his unusual cravings. “Even though you know what a night with me might entail?”

“Yes,” the man answers without hesitation. “I know, and I consent.”

An Interview with Lady Sally Rudston-Chichester

Today on my blog page I’m delighted to announce I have a guest. I’m interviewing Edwardian dominatrix Lady Sally Rudston-Chichester, who’s just returned from her airship travels across the Empires of Europe. A book entitled ‘Mistress Of The Air’ has just been published containing an account of her adventures.

K D Grace: Hello, Lady Sally, thank you for allowing me to interview you today.

Lady Sally: Indeed. It’s a pleasure to talk with you. Though perhaps I can start by asking you not to stare at my breasts…it’s somewhat disconcerting.

KD: …Oh, yes, hmm, I’m sorry…

LS: I know they are rather magnificent. Indeed, they are great assets, which I use to great effect during my travels but it’s exceedingly rude to stare.

KD: Yes, ladyship it’s just they are…incredible. I’m afraid I can’t take my eyes off them.

LS: Yes, I find that’s often the case… especially for men, though it is often their undoing!

KD: Well, let me change the subject. Can you tell me about your airship?

LS: Yes, of course. The Corsetted Domme is a marvel. She is the largest and fastest dirigible ever to take to the air – a veritable ocean liner of the skies. My designers and engineers have come up with remarkable technological innovations such as the use of a duralumin frame and the geodetic structure of her design.

KD: I believe the domestic quarters are impressive.

LS: Indeed, they are. They are fitted out in teak and brass to my own specification. Naturally, my dressing room is especially large.

KD: Did you take lots of clothes with you?

LS: Yes, of course. I have several wardrobes for my corsetry alone, and then there’s the rubber and fetish wear, and my ball gowns… and my hunting gear. I went to far-flung corners of the continent so had to be prepared for different climates and every eventuality.

KD: Did you take any companions with you on your travels?

LS: Well, my transvestite maid, Victoria, comes everywhere with me. She’s a dilatory dolly at times, but extremely loyal. Then there was my airship pilot, Captain Wyndham. He’s somewhat of a dark horse, I believe. He clearly has a thing for me, indeed as most men do, but will not completely submit to me, which I find rather endearing as I like a challenge. Then there are my two brass automatons, Clarissa, who is the captain’s co-pilot and Borghild who is a sex-doll. Finally, there are my submissive gentlemen, especially chosen to attend me on this trip – a banker, a bishop, a judge and a duke. They have names… but I seem to have forgotten them.

KD: I understand you have lots of adventures across Europe. Where did you travel to?

LS: There were several of my aristocratic relatives I wanted to visit…in Vienna, Potsdam and St Petersburg. Then I simply had to do some shopping in the bazaar in Istanbul, before going to look at the erotic frescos at Pompeii, and then onto the French Empire to receive an award given to me by La Societé D’Aviation Et Les Dirigeables.

KD: That sounds like a well-planned tour.

LS: Hmm. Not exactly. I found I did have to make some hasty retreats because things went wrong. And there was a storm… one or two explosions… and a crash landing along the way. But I won’t spoil anything for your readers by telling you too much about these alarums. Needless to say, I survived them all!

KD: I know you are a woman of the world, Lady Sally, and have many business interests. Perhaps you can tell my readers about some of them.

LS: Yes, that’s very true, I have numerous business interests spread all over the globe. There’s my rubber tree plantation in Malaysia. My manufactory there produces the thinnest latex material for my outfits. I own various tea plantations in India and China which grow a huge variety of teas – I’m something of a connoisseur when it comes to tea. Then there’s a chain of brothels and bars in the wild west, shares in several Parisien burlesque clubs. Last but not least, of course, there’s my brass mine in Zanzibar…

KD: Brass mine? But surely br…

LS: … Yes, my mine produces the finest quality brass in the world…

KD: But isn’t br..

LS: …and my brass has a lustre and sheen that’s unrivalled. It’s especially valued by automaton manufacturers, you know.

KD: Perhaps I ought to move onto another subject. Do you have any hobbies?

LS: I’m very busy and don’t really find time for that kind of thing… unless one counts collecting antique whips and floggers?

KD: As an author of BDSM books, I’d be interested to hear about your particular style of domination. For instance, how do you feel about after-care or use of safe words?

LS: Excuse me, I don’t understand. What is this safe word that you speak of?

KD: You know, a special word you give to a submissive to stop play if it becomes too intense?

LS: Certainly not! My submissive gentlemen are required to obey my every whim, and if there should be one or two electrocutions or explosions along the way, then so be it!

KD: Oh, I see. And lastly, perhaps you can tell me about the worst experience you had on your travels?

LS: Well, that’s easy. Whilst visiting the Princess Maria Labiastein in Vienna I was served coffee…and at tea time! How disgusting. Her apple strudel was good though… but, I ask you, what’s the point of a fine patisserie if you don’t have a decent cup of tea to wash it down. I have vowed never to visit Vienna again!

KD: Thank you Lady Sally, it’s been most enlightening.

Mistress of the AirBook Blurb

Mistress of the Air is a Comic, Steampunk, Erotic Adventure.

Lady Sally Rudston-Chichester owns a brass mine in Zanzibar, a Lapsang Souchong tea plantation in China, a rubber tree farm in Malaysia, trunk loads of corsetry, and the country’s largest collection of antique whips and floggers.

Larger than life, and itching to find new and inventive ways to punish her submissive gentlemen, the Edwardian dominatrix has a vision. Embracing the spirit of the new age of aviation, she embarks on a series of adventures on her own airship, The Corseted Domme, with her transvestite maid, Victoria, her airship pilot, Captain Wyndham, and her automaton sex toy, Borghild.

A select group of submissive gentlemen, consisting of a duke, bishop, lawyer and banker, is invited to join Lady Sally so she can try out her new dastardly devices and sex toys on them. She whips, spanks and punishes her way across the Empires of Europe, dropping off to visit her aristocratic relatives and friends for afternoon tea.

But Lady Sally’s journey is not uneventful. War is threatening to break out and the Ministry of Aviation want to commandeer her airship for the war effort. And when The Corseted Domme has a crash landing, Lady Sally realises there is a stowaway on board intent on sabotaging her airship.

There will be wild escapades, kinky BDSM, dastardly devices, explosions and nice cups of tea.

They arrived back at the mast where The Corseted Domme was moored to be met by a moustached gentleman in a bowler hat and pin-striped suit.

“Lady Sally Rudston-Chichester?” he enquired.

“Yes, that is me. What can I do for you?”

“I’m from the British Consulate in Essen. I am to deliver this letter to you from the Ministry of War. I’ve been directed to accompany you back to England with your airship, it’s being requisitioned by the Ministry.”

Lady Sally opened the letter and read it. It basically reiterated the message the gentleman had just conveyed. She passed it to Captain Wyndham to read.

“I’m sorry, Lady Sally,” he said, with genuine sympathy and disappointment. “And so soon after you’d set off on your adventures.”

She fixed the captain with a piercing and meaningful gaze.

“Indeed. Leave this to me captain. I shall discuss the arrangements with the gentleman from the Ministry here. In the meantime, I suggest you take the cargo aboard and fire up the engines so we can make as quick a departure as possible… for the benefit of the man from the Ministry, of course.”

She was plotting something, “Of course Lady Sally, I’ll have her ready to set off as soon as madam is aboard.”

“Thank you, captain,” she said, turning back to the gentleman as Wyndham and Victoria heaved the crate into the lift in the mooring tower.

“Well, I can’t deny I’m not disappointed, sir, but never mind, these things happen. Stiff upper lip and all that, what? You are most welcome on The Corseted Domme, I’m sure you’ll find me most accommodating.”

Lady Sally did indeed have a plan.

Stage one: play for time and lure one’s victim into a false sense of security.

“Let it not be said Lady Sally Rudston-Chichester is not a hospitable host. We must partake of some tea when we board. I’m sure you must be parched waiting out here for so long. How tiresome for you. I recommend a nice cup of Darjeeling. It makes a very refreshing brew. Did you know the leaves come from my own plantation in the foothills of the Himalayas? I am something of an expert on the subject and take pride in ensuring only the most fragrant of leaves are used in my teas…”

Lady Sally proceeded to describe her plantations in great detail and the flavours of the teas grown on them. She gave a lecture on the benefits of tea drinking (so much more invigorating than that horrid, bitter coffee stuff) and explained how the British Empire was built on tea drinking.

Eventually, after a ten-minute diatribe, Lady Sally heard the engines fire up.

Stage two: make best use of one’s assets

“Oh dear, all this talk of tea has made me quite hot and bothered.”

She removed the velvet mantle from her shoulders. Her breasts, pushed up by the corset under her dress, were beautiful orbs of white flesh. The man from the Ministry, being somewhat shorter than Lady Sally, had a view right down her cleavage. It never failed. Lady Sally had found that every male, when faced with a pair of such magnificent boobs, would lose all concentration and sense. Throughout her life this was a weakness she had learnt to exploit.

Stage three: act swiftly.

She brought her knee up into his testicles. Lady Sally’s aim was very precise; it came from years of practise. She knew the exact spot to cause the most excruciating pain. The man from the Ministry doubled up in agony.

Stage four: press home one’s advantage.

With the gentleman bent over clutching his aching balls, Lady Sally wasted no time in pushing him against the metal frame of the mooring tower. She produced coils of thin cord from within the confines of the velvet dress, and within seconds had the man’s wrists secured to the tower. She soon had his ankles tied together. The man from the Ministry did not know what had hit him.

“You dally with England’s strictest dominatrix at your peril, sir. The Corseted Domme is built for pleasure… my pleasure, and I will not have her used for any other purpose, certainly not to propagate any pointless war. I bid you good day, sir. This is a busy airship station so I expect somebody will be along soon to release you.”

At that, Lady Sally left her unfortunate victim tied to the mooring tower, and headed off for her airship.

She burst into the control room. The engines were already thrumming, and the propellers whirring. Captain Wyndham was ready for launch and Clarissa had her brass hand clutched on the tiller ready to operate the elevators.

“Set off now, captain. We need to get away as soon as possible.”

The captain gave the order to release the cable from the mooring tower. In an instance the giant dirigible reversed, turning around in one sweeping movement, and accelerated up into the air.

“Where’s the man from the Ministry?” asked Captain Wyndham.

“He’s a little tied up at the moment.”

The captain laughed. He knew Lady Sally was planning something, “How did you manage that?”

“As a strict dominatrix, I always carry rope in my undergarments, one never knows when one might require some. Oh, and I kneed him in the balls too.”

tourbutton_ONiBostonWhen I wrote One Night in Boston, I decided straight off that these two characters weren’t going to be like the characters in my other two City Nights Series books, One Night in Madrid and One Night in Pamplona. First off, they were going to be different races. Secondly, they were not going to be in their twenties. In fact, they were going to be in their late thirties and early forties. Thirdly, they were not going to have perfect bodies. I wasn’t tired of describing beautiful bodies, but it was time for something new.

Not everyone reading the book is young and beautiful anymore (nor the person writing it!) and I think they’ll appreciate characters aren’t always young and beautiful either, even in erotic romance stories. Nor do they need to be. They’re still sexy, still attractive, and still young and beautiful where it counts – in their heads and in the bedroom.

And they know what they like and what they want and they’re not afraid to ask it of their lover.

I also decided to make the characters older because the story is about taking chances, about going for something even when it seems like it’s doomed before you start. And while young people take chances – often stupid ones, as we see on the news often enough – they are less likely to ponder the implications of their embarking on an adventure. They just go for it without thinking because the future is wide open, as the song says, and who cares if things go belly up, really?

Colm and Amber in One Night in Boston, however, know what they’re doing. They’re well aware that things have not gone amazingly well for them before, and that they’ve not got lots of time to waste on a relationship that’s going to fizzle out after a while. They want to invest in something that has a future rather than something that seems doomed from the start. At the same time, they know life is short, and even they deserve a little bit of romance, even if it is only for one night…

*****

Excerpt:

“Feck, feck and fuckin’ feck,” he yelled at nobody in particular.

Amber guffawed.

“That’s all right, Amber. You have your laugh. I’m feckin’ drenched.”

Amber caught her breath. “I can see.”

“So much for finding a restaurant. If we can get a taxi to the hotel we can eat there. I have other clothes, and I can leave these hangin’ on a chair. They’ll dry before mornin’ in that sauna of a room.”

Amber stopped laughing and shook her head, though she still smiled broadly, her eyes glowing with mirth. It was like a little sunshine. “No. We can dry them at my house in half an hour and go for dinner later. It’s still early; there’s still lots to see.”

“If you’re sure,” Colm said.

Amber was sure. She hadn’t been until he fell. Well, she’d been sure she’d kiss him, but as to inviting him home, she’d not thought about it. Much. Well, okay, she’d thought about it, a lot; all the time they were holding hands. But she’d believed it was still a decision waiting to be made.

But once she’d said it, she was sure it was the right thing.

Well, maybe it wasn’t. He was getting on a plane the next day and flying out of her life, just like Billy had—though that had been after a lot more than one day. She didn’t like one-night stands because she felt she was just getting played again. But screw it, she’d made her decision. She didn’t go back on decisions; even bad ones. Her mami could attest to that.

Anyway, it wasn’t often she could let herself take such a chance. Normally she had the kids in the house and that made it impossible to bring a man home. Nor was it often she met a man who wanted to come home with her—or who was worth bringing back home. Since Billy left she’d only been on a few dates. Men didn’t get turned on by the fact she’d two teenage kids.

Colm looked like his ass was cold. The snow stuck to his pants and he pulled at them to keep the wet cloth away from his legs. By the time a cab slowed and stopped for them, the pants were nearly frozen stiff, and sitting in the cab wasn’t very comfortable for him. He made no move to lean against her now, so he wouldn’t get her wet. At least being frozen, water didn’t drip all over the seat, so the driver never knew the pants were damp.

Her flat was a small, two-bedroom walk-up in Mission Hill. She really needed somewhere bigger. But it had a nice deck on the back that looked out over Downtown, and when she got home and kicked back with a beer or a gin and tonic—weather permitting—it was her own little sanctuary. All the bullshit she had to put up with from customers and Billy and the kids and the landlady, and whoever else got in her way that day, just melted away.

Colm seemed to appreciate the view, and didn’t say anything about the small size of the apartment. Nor did he mention the fact it was only fifty degrees in the place. Amber supposed it felt warm to him after the cold bath. He looked around for the washing machine in the kitchen while she turned up the thermostat.

“I got a washer-dryer in the bathroom. I used to go to the laundromat, but man, I’m tired of doin’ that shit my whole life. Landlady doesn’t like it, but she can kiss my big black ass. I ain’t taking my laundry through the snow all winter. Not the way my kids change their clothes.”

“Have you got a towel or anything? Just to dry myself off a bit.”

She laughed. She didn’t think he’d be so shy about disrobing, somehow; him a big farmer and all. “You go get in the shower, warm your ass up. When I hear the water runnin’, I’ll come in and put the clothes in the machine. Then I’ll have coffee ready when you’re done.”

“That’s great, thanks a million.”

Colm got in the shower and Amber threw his clothes in the dryer. Then she put on some coffee. It would be done percolating when she was done with Colm.

In the bedroom she closed the blinds and turned on Samika’s bedside lamp so her own bed was in shadow when she turned off the main light. She didn’t want Colm to see her body in the cold brightness, exactly. She was going to have sex with him, but it didn’t mean she was completely at ease showing him her body. If she was, she’d have gotten in the shower with him already.

When Amber heard the water stop she went back in the bathroom while Colm was still towelling off. He seemed a little startled, but recovered quickly. He looked at her without speaking. She didn’t speak either. What was there to say?

She took him by the hand into her bedroom. He let the towel drop when he got there. She turned around and sat back on the bed, looking up at him. His whole body was extremely pale, his chest and belly covered in thick hair. He had a bit of a paunch, but a wide chest, and his arms and legs were muscular. He looked like he could pick her up and dance across the room—had there been room to stand.

He didn’t look like he wanted to stand much, though. She stole a glance at his dick, already rising to the occasion as he climbed on the bed beside her.

JD Martins has been called Spanish, Mexican, Chinese, Philippine and English and Australian. He is none of these.

He’s lived in four cities in three countries on two continents, but he doesn’t feel like he’s travelled very much. His life in each city was rather mundane and he didn’t get out much – tending to move his pen more than his body.

He still aspires to see much more of the world – probably when his wife becomes rich enough to let him retire from day jobs.

He would like to live like Ernest Hemmingway: periodically sending novel manuscripts to his publisher from various far-flung corners of the world, though he’s not sure the quality will be quite the same. Until then, he has contented himself with living like Robert Graves – in a pleasant part of Spain with a quiet life – and being able to do some things that Hemmingway did – trout fishing in Spain, game hunting in Africa, watching bullfights and running with the bulls, – and a few that he did not get to do – surfing, skydiving, bungee jumping, and getting erotic stories published.

Extract from The Scottish Fantasy

(One of two new stories added into this new addition of The Collector)

Stacie gasped as the door opened. The dark shine to the man’s slate eyes as he regarded her and her friend Kate was in danger of taking Stacie’s breath away, and he hadn’t even spoken yet.

Tall, broad, with a tanned face and short spiked hair, a hint of stubble shadowed his square chin. Obviously surprised to see two young women walking through the woods so late on a winter’s afternoon, the ranger ushered them inside his wooden hut.

Introducing himself as Rob—Like Rob Roy! Stacie’s inner voice shouted at her. How perfect is that!—he looked at them enquiringly, ‘I dunna ken what you’re doin’ here, hens.’

Stacie’s brow furrowed. She’d thought that the Scottish spoke English.

Kate laughed as she saw her friend’s confused expression. ‘He means he doesn’t understand what we want, honey. “Dunna ken” means “don’t know” and “hen” is the local term for girl.’  Turning toward the ranger, Kate smiled. ‘This is Stacie, and I’m Kate. Stacie hasn’t got her ear geared into the local accent yet; she’s American.’

‘I guess that means an American accent.’ The ranger spoke so softly, Stacie felt herself melting on the spot. ‘I rather like those.’

Ignoring her friend, whose eyes were on stalks, leaving her in no doubt that Stacie was on an internal lust trip, Kate said, ‘We’re really sorry to bother you so late, but could you tell us where we are? We seem to be on a much longer trail than we intended to be, and we’ve lost the track.’

Rob’s dark eyes bored into her as she spoke. Kate couldn’t decide if their presence mildly amused him, or if he was merely tolerating the interruption to his work.

‘We’ve run out of water as well. Could we fill up our bottles here, please?’

‘It’s a good job you stopped, hen.’ The ranger pulled a map off his cluttered desk and pointed a thick finger at a red dotted line. ‘You’re here, on the all day walk. It’s called that for sound reasons.’

Lost in an erotic daydream, Stacie wasn’t listening to a word he said, just to the sound of his voice; the beautiful, gentle burr of his accent. She judged it fitted neatly half way between Ewan McGregor and Sean Connery.

When Kate had invited her friend over from the States for a couple of weeks exploring the Grampians of Scotland, Stacie had been thrilled. Not only could she catch up with her gorgeous friend and occasional lover, she could visit an area of the world that had always held a fantasy for her. Kilts, burly men in tight white vests, cabers being tossed, heather, whiskey, and mountains topped with snow.

The heather and mountains were a reality sure enough, as were the late night tots of warming whiskey she’d shared with Kate as they snuggled up together in the king-sized bed their Deeside hotel room provided. But until now, in this ranger’s office, hidden away in the woods near the flooded caves of Burn O’Vat, Stacie hadn’t seen anyone who even came close to the Celtic man of her late night fantasies.

Stacie felt mesmerised by the ranger. Despite the coldness of the late winter air he wore no coat, and his green sweater sleeves were rolled back to show arms honed by hard work. Forget kilts, this was as close to perfection as Stacie’s Scottish fantasy was ever going to get.

‘I’ll fill your bottles right enough, but if you’ll heed my advice, you’ll go back on the route you came. Far quicker and safer. It’ll be dark in about two hours.’

‘Thanks, I think we’ll do that.’ Kate watched as he took their empty water bottles over to his sink. His back view was as stunning as his front. The goldfish expression on Stacie’s face told her girlfriend that she was mentally undressing him, and Kate began to do the same.  Well aware that Stacie had serious fantasy issues where Scottish men were concerned, Kate wondered just how turned on her friend was. Did she have damp knickers? Were her nipples hard?

As Kate’s thoughts rambled, her own arousal began to tweak up a notch. Perhaps… She took a deep breath. Well, why not?

‘It must be lonely here, on your own all day.’ Kate knew the line was a bit lame, but she didn’t care. A sideways glance at Stacie showed that her lover had understood her intentions, and approved.

Rob didn’t look round. He didn’t need to. He could sense the two sets of eyes on his back; they were almost scorching him. Taking his time to fill the second bottle, the ranger thought the situation through.

Two of them, both hot totty. One a blonde, one a redhead. One English. One American. A tasty combination. Their bulky winter coats, sensible walking trousers and boots didn’t give much away, but he was willing to bet that once all the layers were off, they would be a sight to behold. He could be wrong, he supposed, but maybe…

Rob replied to Kate’s question. ‘I like it well enough, hen. I ken it’s quiet, but I like peace and quiet.’

‘So, you don’t get… lonely, then?’ Kate knew she was being blatant, but she didn’t care. If she could pull this off, it would be the perfect holiday present for her friend. Stacie, her mouth dry with anticipation, stepped forward. Pulling off her gloves to reveal pale hands with violently clashing purple nail-varnished tips, she took the full bottles from Rob’s hands. Making certain her fingers brushed his as she did so.

‘Thank you,’ Stacie purred as she passed one of the bottles to her partner. The tacit standoff that followed as tension rippled through the small office room-cum-workshop was eventually broken by Rob.

‘Would you lassies like something to warm you up before you go?’  His sentence, delivered in a deadpan tone, could have been suggesting something as mundane as sharing of a mug of hot chocolate, but his sparkling eyes hinted at so much more.

Stacie’s pulse quickened as Kate casually replied, ‘Well, if it’s not too much trouble, that would be lovely.’ Another normal sentence, but packed with enough eyelash-fluttering that she might as well have screamed out ‘Fuck us now!’

‘I was about to light the fire.’ Rob knelt at a small grate, already neatly piled with kindling. ‘Perhaps you’d like to lose your jackets for a while. When this takes, this place gets pretty hot.’

The girls’ eyes were drawn to the hopping, spluttering flames. They threw their coats over their backpacks, which they’d already dumped by the front door.

Taking his time with the fire, the ranger didn’t stir from where he crouched until it had taken to his satisfaction, and was smoking nicely up the chimney. Then, with a measured movement, he stood and faced his guests, who with unspoken agreement had divested themselves of far more than just their coats. Somehow Rob managed to keep his face passive as his eyes travelled from the top of each girl’s head down to their toes.

They stood naked. Holding hands. So, lovers in their own right, then. Nice. He smiled. It had been over fifteen years since he’d been with two women at the same time. A memory that kept him warm during the dark winter days and nights as he guarded the woodland and its wildlife.

Deciding against comment, Rob took a silent moment to choose which girl he’d treat rough and which one he’d simply treat. Then, with a pace that neither girl would have associated with the man whose previous movements had been so controlled and steady, he stripped…

Create Your Love Story – A Guest Post by Aleigha Siron (@aleighasiron) #findingmyhighlander

tourbutton_findingmyhighlander

Finish the love story you’re reading and then create your own.

Plan the perfect interlude with your partner tonight.

Set the scene:

Dim the lights, or light flickering candles.

Prepare a bowl of peaches and strawberries dipped in chocolate.

Keep extra chocolate (not too hot,) for other taste delights.

Pop the champagne. Keep two glasses full for toasts through the night.

Dab champagne on all delectable body parts aching for passionate kisses.

Have your partner do the same.

If you’re the beer and pizza type, that could work too.

Communicate without words—love through touch.

Close your eyes and trace the contours of your lover’s face, neck, arms, and hands.

Pick your favorite light massage oil. Take turns. Leave fear or shyness in another room.

Swirl your name on your lover’s skin with the tip of your finger.

Start slow and easy, with your hands on your lover’s body, build heat and pressure.

Open the gates, let passion rule, surrender to enchantment.

When words come, rejoice with praise, honor, adoration.

Laugh, cry, remember why you fell in love.

Love is the greatest gift we bestow on another.

Don’t wait another day because today is all we have to share.

Pick a song. Lose yourself in the sounds and sensations.

Live your love story.

Excerpt:

“Lass, can I help you?” His voice was softer than the others, his stance relaxed, composed, despite the dirt and blood splattered over his massive arms and clothing. He seemed to be a quiet, gentle man, though physically as imposing as the others.

“You could bring me my bag.”

He moved his hand from behind him and cautiously extended her mother’s old carpetbag. “Do I need to check it for weapons?” A slight crinkle lifted the corner of his mouth. A piece of leather cord tied wavy, light-brown hair at the nape of his neck and tight braids spilled alongside sharp, scruffy cheeks. His eyes were dark and shadowed.

“Thank you…it’s Rabbie, correct?”

“Aye,” he nodded.

Andra granted him a guarded smile. “I’ll pull no further weapons if you promise to be kind.” The slight attempt at humor from both of them eased the tension coiled in her gut.

He swept an arm gracefully in front of him and bowed, “Always, m’lady, as I learned at me mother’s knee.” Then he left her to tend the horses.

She searched her bag for the washcloth, hand towel, and first aid kit she always carried when traveling. The washcloth came to hand first. She dipped it into the cold water and wiped the dried and clotted blood from her face and hair. Then she dunked her head in the pool several more times.

“I seem to be awake,” she whispered, just for the comfort on her own voice. “My surroundings feel solid enough,” she pounded her fist on the dirt, “so it must be real. Accept it, Andra, and decide what to do next.”

She could hear the men speaking Gaelic, hushed yet clearly distraught about the condition of their clansman. They gathered near another pool of water several yards from where she knelt. She watched them over her shoulder for a few minutes struggling to fit the scene into her new reality. A million questions rose in her throat.

“Not now. Patience and observation are what’s required. All will be revealed in time.” What a stupid cliché.

Should she offer her help with their friend; would they accept it? She could not sit here and do nothing when one of them was seriously injured. Besides, anxiety always spurred her to take action. Her father had always said, “Move, keep busy, and don’t let dust gather under your feet.” With her father’s words ringing in her ears, she approached the men cautiously, keeping her eye on the mean one, Struan.

“May I be of assistance?” She stood with her feet firmly planted on the hard-packed, dirt floor, her head held high, one hand pressed flat against her side, the other rested on the cross dangling on her chest. It took an extreme effort to control her trembling body. Her palms moistened with sweat. She steadied her focus on Kendrick. His strong hands moved carefully over his brother’s body. The mean one harrumphed and growled.

A growl? Really?

Kendrick looked up, concern etched on his face. His dark, probing eyes bore through her. “Are you a healer, then?” he asked.

“Not a healer exactly, but I have cared for ill and injured persons and have some training in first aid. I wish to help if you’ll permit me.”

“I dinnae ken your meaning. What’s the first aid of which you speak? As you can see, we give him aid, but if you can do anything to help save my brother’s life, I will gladly accept your offer.”

The mean one growled again. “Don’t trust her, she’s the enemy and will just as soon slit his throat.”

Ignoring the slur, she continued, “Have you determined the extent of his injuries?”

“Aye, his shoulder is dislocated, several fingers broken, which we have straightened and bound as best we’re able. We need to stitch multiple, deep wounds, and he’s lost a lot of blood, though blood no longer flows freely.”

The injured man lay on a plaid, stripped completely naked, his kilt torn away from his battered body. Mud, blood, and all manner of vile debris caked the hard planes of his bronzed chest. Andra couldn’t identify the severity or location of all his injuries. He moaned but appeared unconscious, or so she assumed, since he hadn’t opened his eyes. Clumps of dried blood crusted over wounds on one leg and foot. Dark, matted refuse covered the entire other leg.

His manhood lay flaccid against his thigh, and none of the men seemed concerned about his state of undress in front of a strange female. She stood quietly, waiting for several breaths.

AleighaSironAuthor Bio and Media Links

After more than twenty years writing and delivering management and other training programs for modest-sized to Fortune Five Hundred companies, and ten years developing community crisis-intervention training programs, Aleigha turned her writing efforts to her first loves, fiction, and poetry.  Her poetry has appeared in numerous anthologies and university presses over the past few decades.  Following a difficult period in her life, she discovered solace in romance novels that inspired her to write in this genre.  As she says, “who doesn’t desire a guaranteed happy-ever-after scenario?” Always interested in the concept of time-travel, she knew her first few stories would follow that theme.

When not writing, her trusty four-legged companion/helper, Strider, accompanies her on sunset walks along the shore. During these quiet walks under an expansive sky, with the whoosh of waves across the sand and her gaze drifting over the rolling sea, her best glimmers of inspiration come to mind.  Following the recent discovery of distant Scottish ancestors, she embarked on a trip to the Highlands. Although she had already developed the characters for Finding My Highlander, her trip to the Highlands enriched the characters and enhanced the story direction. This is her first full-length romance novel.  Aleigha is working on a prequel to Finding My Highlander, and another time-travel novel set in a later period.
