The Retreat- Part Two of The Perfect Submissive Trilogy
Many thanks to the lovely Kd for inviting back to her place today to chatter a little about the background of my latest novel, The Retreat– the sequel to The Perfect Submissive.
I was over the moon when the guys at Xcite books asked me to continue to write the adventures of Miss Jess Sanders, but I was also very nervous. The Perfect Submissive was my very first full length novel, and a far bigger hit than I had ever dared to hope for- how would I match it???
I really wanted to make the story different from the first- there is nothing worse than reading the same old thing over and over again! However, I also wanted to keep the old characters as long with some new ones. After all, those characters, especially Jess and her mistress Miss Sarah, had been very good to me!
I also wanted to play a lot more on Jess’s views of her own position…The emotions and thought processes that are fundamental to any sub or dom relationship are fascinating, and I wanted to continue to underpin Jess’s second adventure with those perceptions, just as I did in book one.
“…Jess was shocked at how disquieting she found this possible freedom of choice. She’d become so used to confinement. It had never occurred to her how free and in control she felt when she had neither freedom nor control…” (Chapter 6 of The Retreat.)
This wasn’t enough of a difference though- not really- I wanted a fresh twist. The idea or The Retreats made plot however came, not from me, but from my good friend Debbie. She has read a great deal of my work bless her, and knows The Perfect Submissive storyline almost as well as I do. Her suggestion was to take Jess away from her new life at the Fables Hotel and expose her to a situation that wasn’t exactly as it seemed…and then add fairy tales…
Just as Jess is beginning to relax into her new life as a submissive at The Fables Hotel, her employer Mrs Peters announces that she is loaning both Jess, and her dominatrix Miss Sarah, to one of their most demanding clients; Mr David Proctor.
Whisked away by the mysterious Kane to The Retreat, hidden in a remote part of Scotland, Jess and Miss Sarah find themselves teaching another submissive to meet Proctor’s exacting rules.
As Jess comes to terms with the techniques of The Retreat Mistress, and the strictly overpowering dominatrix Lady Tia, she discovers that Proctor’s motives may not be all they seem.
Just who or what is Fairtasia? And why does Jess feel like she’s walked into a warped fairy tale?
In order to get back to The Fables, Jess is going to have to be more than just a perfect submissive…
