The energy bar must have helped. Will seemed coherent enough. “I can’t feel my hands,” he said battling to get his sleeping bag out of its waterproof sack.

“Give me that,” Doc said through chattering teeth. “Let me do it. My hands aren’t all delicate and dainty like yours.”

“Would you look at that,” Will said as Doc grabbed the bag. “Amazingly, my middle finger works just fine.” He flipped him off.

“So does your smart mouth.” Without thinking Doc zipped the two bags together.

“What are you doing?” Will was suddenly serious.

“You’re hypothermic. Get your wet clothes off and get into the bag.”

“Oh. Right.” But Will could no more manage the buttons and zippers on his clothing than he could his sleeping bag.

This time when Doc shoved his hands away and pushed the waterproof jacket off his shoulders, Will only watched, eyes focused on the process as though it were something totally new to him. Doc cursed the fiddly buttons on the man’s shirt, his own hands none too agile from the cold and wet and the fact that he was undressing Will fucking Charles, about whom he’d been having less than pristine thoughts since his first view of the man’s Arse, Will fucking Charles with whom he was about to cuddle down into a sleeping bag butt naked, never mind that it was with good reason.

Will sucked a harsh breath. “Your damned hands are like ice cubes, Woodsy.”

“Oh shut it, William, or I’ll kick your arse outside and make you sleep in the rain.”

“Fucking like to see you try.” Will’s teeth were chattering hard, and his whole body trembling from the cold as Doc worried the shorts down over his commando bum and found himself face to cock, which made the blighter burst into hysterical laughter. “Have we ulterior motives, Mr. Jones? Where the hell’s urBrain? I have to get this on camera.”

“Want a selfie of your cock, do you, you shivering bastard?” Doc turned his attention to the walking boots, which had stopped all progress of getting the man naked. Focusing on something other than the naked, very vulnerable body of Will fucking Charles helped clear his mind. He was too cold, to tired to get hard over what was essentially a matter of life and death, he told himself. Surely!

Once boots were dispensed with, he shoved the man into the sleeping bag and went about the awkward business of stripping himself.

“Where the hell is the urBrain when I need it?” Will chuckled between chattering teeth.

“You point that thing at me, and I’ll shove it up your arse,” Doc’s own teeth sounded like a couple of spastic tap dancers had been turned loose in his mouth.

“Now that’s a function I didn’t find in the instruction manual,” Will replied.

What started out as ribald comments on the shriveling effect of the cold on male tender bits dwindled to nothing more than the sound of convulsive shivering. By the time Doc had shed the last of his clothes and shoved his way down next to Will, he was seriously worried. It took all his strength, which wasn’t a helluva lot at the moment, to pull the bloke into his arms and hold him close enough to share body heat, what little there was of it. The worry subsided a bit when Will threw his arms around his neck and gave a harsh chuckle against his throat. “This was seriously worth getting hypothermic for. Pity I’m too fucking tired to appreciate it.”

Though Doc agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiment, his focus was on getting Will warm, then he’d get out the backpacking stove and fix them something hot. That was the last thing he remembered, that and the feel of Will’s body shivering against him, in the tent redolent with the male scent of core heat and wet gear all overlaid by the icy metal smell of the fells in a storm.

somethingbrave_800_2Excerpt:

“Oh, I think of you all the time, Felicity. When I’m meant to be concentrating on the figures, one…” She felt an explosion of heat just above her belly button a second after he paused, and she gasped and pulled her stomach in.

“Two.” Another drop landed a little higher, between her ribs, and she felt the two hot impact spots melting together into a river of warmth.

“Well, you get the idea.”

She heard the mirth in his voice. He was enjoying watching her squirm. Another drop of wax splashed between her breasts. The impact burned, and she writhed against her bonds. It wasn’t nice, it wasn’t pleasant, but the warmth and the condensing pull of the cooling wax was strangely sensual. She wanted more as much as she wanted it to stop.

“I think of you over breakfast, whenever I see a pretty item of jewelery, when I look out of my office window, when I touch my desk. I see you there, stretched out and eager for your spanking. I think about you when I pick up my briefcase, when I loosen my tie. All the time, Felicity. You’re always on my mind.”

She heard a rasp, sensed movement beside her. Had he put the candle down?

“I get overwhelmed by thoughts of you all the time.”

Another dribble landed at the top of her left breast and the drop turned into a stream that burned a trail down to just before her nipple. She clenched her teeth, expecting the burning to explode on her sensitive nub, but it didn’t. She relaxed.

“Another confession, Felicity. When I think of you, I get turned on.”

Author Bio:

After years of searching for the perfect job, I think I’ve finally found it in teaching, especially since changing to part-time hours to leave more space for writing. Let’s face it, where else do you get paid for reading stories, playing with glue and paint and making small people laugh? Over the years I’ve child-minded very contentedly, taught cycling proficiency (forgot to mention at the interview that I was still learning to ride a bike, but they found out quite soon), stamped books in a library, sold second-hand maternity clothes, dabbled in mental health care, to name but a few of my jobs.

When I’m not marking books or writing, I spend far too much time on Facebook talking to other, much cleverer writer people. I also blog as part of The Romaniacs online writers’ group. These are the ladies that make me laugh and keep me sane when I think I’ve run out of steam. My ultimate dream is to have children’s books published too.

The rest of my non-writing time is taken up with running Upstage – a children’s drama group – cooking, eating and walking off the damage. I live with my husband and deranged cats in South Derbyshire but, sea-starved in the depths of the Midlands, I can often be found striding over the Quantocks or wandering happily around Brighton visiting my two daughters and pretending to collect ideas for my next book.

Pre-Order INTERVIEWING WADE!

Details and links … oh and a really pretty cover! That’s what I’m all about today!Interviewing Wade_edited-1

I’m very excited to share the lovely cover for Interviewing Wade! I’ve been waiting with bated breath, and Xcite has done me proud. Also notice the very nice little ETO winner badge in the corner! Proud much???

In edition to Wade’s very wonderful cover, the links to pre-order are now officially up on Amazon, and I’ll share those with you at the bottom of the post.

I’m SO excited to finally be able to share Wade’s story! Ever since An Executive Decision came out with Ellis and Dee’s story, readers, who loved the novel were clambering for reclusive, nerd genius, Wade Crittenden’s story. Wade is the creative genius behind the fabulously progressive, green company, Pneuma, Inc, which he and Ellis founded together with the Late Beverly Neumann. While Ellis and Dee work in the light-filled, glass and steel executive suites of the Pneuma Building, which Wade designed, Wad’s realm is the extensive basement and sub-floors affectionately known by everyone else as Wade’s Dungeon.

*****

The deeper Ellis went into the warren Wade had created since the building had been completed, the more it felt like his friend’s domain, and the more it reminded him of the wild, deep twists and turns of the man’s mind. … Ellis moved down the hall to an elevator that he knew wasn’t on any of the blueprints. A good deal of Wade’s Dungeon wasn’t on the blueprints, and he supposed that was a real legal worry if anyone ever found out, but Wade was a law unto himself and never without good reason, even if no one else quite understood what that reason was. Ellis knew, in part, it was Wade’s effort to create a safe space – not so much for him, as from him. As sorry as that made Ellis, he was glad that Pneuma Inc had at least made it possible for his friend to do what he felt he had to.

*****

What happens when the Northwest’s most intriguing, and richest recluse reluctantly agrees to be interviewed by the Northwest’s most talented investigative journalist, Carla Flannery? Carla always gets her story, but sometimes that means making enemies. Wade’s ulterior motive for allowing the interview is to keep her safe by keeping her close when her life is threatened by an unknown stalker.

*****

‘Seriously? I’m sleeping here?’ Carla walked into the middle of The Suite in the Dungeon and looked around. When she turned back to Wade, she saw a faint blush on his cheeks.

‘Well, hell. I suppose you could use the bed for a trampoline and sleep on the couch, if you want. It’s all the same to me.’ He nodded to the closet. ‘Dee sent over the things you left at Ellis’s this morning and had her personal shopper pick up some more.’

She pulled open the closet door and gave a low whistle. ‘Wow! I didn’t own this many clothes before my apartment was vandalised. And I certainly didn’t have any of these brands.’

‘Caitlin does love to shop. Or at least that’s what Dee tells me.’ He gave a grunt of a chuckle. ‘The woman keeps threatening to shop for me.’

‘Can you imagine such a thing,’ she said, running her hand over a silk blouse that probably cost more than her entire wardrobe put together. And she did try to imagine such a thing. What would Wade Crittenden look like in Armani? She couldn’t get past the way he looked in a black t-shirt and low-rider jeans.

He came to stand behind her, straining his neck to peek into the closet. Then he shrugged. ‘A bit extravagant, really, if you’re going to be in the dungeon with me. You won’t need much.’

She turned, practically nose to nose with him and offered a wicked smile. ‘The nurse in the ER warned me to be sure I had a safe word, you know, for hanging out in the dungeon and all.’ She was surprised when he didn’t step back, and her pulse jumped and fluttered when he rested a hand on the closet door above her shoulder, effectively trapping her in place.

‘You’re the one doing the interview, Flannery. I figure it’ll be me needing the safe word.’

*****

Wade has too many secrets to ever let anyone close to him, and yet Carla Flannery is like a magnet. Can he keep her safe from a stalker and keep her safe from himself as well?

*****

Wade grabbed the ball and bowled yet another strike.

‘You’re pretty good,’ she said.

‘I’m better when no one is bothering me.’ He tapped his fingers on the ball return in a definite ‘get-lost-Carla’ rhythm.

‘Look,’ she shoved out of the seat and came to his side again. ‘You’ve been hounding me to be a good girl, to play it safe, to stay out of danger, well…’

He picked up the returned ball and took his stance, with her standing right beside him.

‘What could be safer than me interviewing the mysterious Wade Crittenden of Pneuma Inc?’ She followed on his heels as he positioned himself, took three quick steps and let the ball go. She nearly rear-ended him at his quick stop.

He turned suddenly and she found herself cheek to chest with him. They were both breathing much harder than their little bowling waltz demanded. Then, fuck if he didn’t lift her bodily over his shoulders, carry her back to the chair and drop into it like an oversized sack of potatoes before the ball flattened all the pins. Again. With a hand on either side of the chair, trapping her there, he held her gaze, nearly nose to nose. ‘I may be a lot of things, Flannery, but I’m not safe.’ Before she could protest further, he turned and bellowed, ‘Clyde, Ms Flannery’s leaving. Show her out please. And then lock the damned door.’

Interviewing Wade Blurb:

The Executive Decisions Trilogy may be over, but the story continues. Intrepid reporter, Carla Flannery, wants to interview Wade Crittenden, the secretive creative genius behind Pneuma Inc. But when, against all odds, Wade actually agrees to the interview, Carla suspects ulterior motives.

Carla has made a lot of enemies in her work and when Wade discovers she’s being stalked, he agrees to the interview to keep her close and safe. As the situation turns deadly, lives and hearts are on the line, and the interview reveals far more about both than either ever expected.
